Product questions

Not sure what size cake you need? This section helps you choose the right cake based on the number of guests, so everyone gets a generous slice without any guesswork.

How is my cake kept fresh during the delivery process?

We use dry ice to keep your cake fresh and protect its quality during transit. We also use air pockets and polystyrene to keep the cake safe.

What is Dry Ice?

Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide at -78°C. It helps keep perishable food fresh because it is very cold and prevents bacteria growth. Dry ice is environmentally friendly, made from recovered carbon dioxide.

Dry Ice Safety:

Dry ice turns into carbon dioxide gas. Even a small piece of dry ice creates a lot of gas, so be careful.

Always follow these instructions when handling dry ice:

Dry Ice Disposal:

Once you unpack your order, immediately dispose of any remaining dry ice. Handle it carefully. Dry ice will turn into harmless carbon dioxide gas, but it is very cold and can produce a large volume of gas.

ALWAYS dispose of dry ice in a well-ventilated outside area, so the gas can disperse safely. ALWAYS ensure that dry ice packs are disposed of in a safe place and is not accessible to passers-by, particularly children and animals.

ALWAYS remember not to handle dry ice with bare hands. ALWAYS dispose of under conditions where the low temperature will not present a hazard or problem.

DO NOT Dispose of dry ice in an area where the CO2 gas can collect in low lying areas such as drains, confined space.

DO NOT Place dry ice in your freezer or fridge. DO NOT Place dry ice into drink.

We do NOT advise refreezing the cake once defrosted."

How do I dispose of dry ice and ice packs?

DRY ICE:
After unpacking your order, any remaining dry ice should be handled with care and disposed of immediately. Dry ice naturally evaporates into carbon dioxide gas, expanding up to 500 times its volume.

If your dry ice bags are torn or have small holes, your product remains safe and unaffected.

•To safely dispose of dry ice, place it in a well-ventilated outdoor space and evaporate any left over ice safely—like a garden, open doorway, shaded driveway, or beside outdoor bins—ensuring it’s kept away from children, pets, drains, and busy walkways.

• Keep away from children, pets, drains, and confined areas. Including passers-by.
•Never touch dry ice with bare hands—use gloves or tongs.
•Do not place dry ice in your fridge, freezer, or drinks.

ICE PACKS:

•Wait until fully thawed
•Snip the corner and rinse the gel down the sink (it won’t clog pipes and is safely processed at wastewater treatment facilities)
•The outer bag is LDPE and fully recyclable with plastic films at major supermarkets

How does Patisserie Valerie ensure my cake arrives in one piece?

After an extensive trial, we selected DPD Local as our logistics partner as they had the highest first time delivery success rates. We then developed a packaging system with DPD Local, specifically for fragile food items which should ensure it arrives safely.

To ensure maximum freshness for your special occasion, our cakes are shipped frozen. Depending on the time of day your delivery arrives, the cake will need to defrost for 3 to 10 hours. My Account

We are now delighted to offer a selection of our cakes and treats for delivery throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. This section has all the helpful information about how this service works to make ordering as easy as possible.

Why isn’t the full range of products available in Ireland?

Our Irish site is only a small bakery, and at the moment we’re offering a selection of our best-sellers and customer favourites.

Why is my order more expensive in Ireland?

We understand that pricing differences can be a bit confusing, so we’re happy to explain.
Orders placed through our Irish website may be slightly more expensive due to a combination of factors:

•VAT Rates: The rate of VAT (Value Added Tax) differs between Ireland and the UK, and this affects the final price of your order.

•Logistics & Local Operations: Our Irish site is serviced by a smaller bakery, and products are delivered through courier networks. These local logistics, along with import and handling costs, can sometimes result in slightly higher prices.

We always strive to keep our pricing as fair and transparent as possible, while ensuring the same high quality and service across all locations.

How do I contact you from Ireland?

You can contact us with any queries via email: orders@patisserie valerie.co.uk.

Or if you prefer you can speak to a member of the Irish team on +353 1 233 9001.
